San Francisco Shock Announces
Overwatch NorCal Corporate Circuit with After Hours Gaming League
The unique partnership between a corporate league and professional esports organization will raise funds benefiting Extra Life and the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital
SAN FRANCISCO – July 13, 2018 – NRG Esports, the San Francisco Shock and the After Hours Gaming League today announced a philanthropic partnership between the corporate charity league and the San Francisco-based professional esports organization. As a partner in AHGL’s Fall program, NRG and the San Francisco Shock will collaborate alongside additional sponsors to launch a Fall Overwatch tournament featuring Northern California based companies. The Shock and the AHGL will also be donating the proceeds to the Bay Area Extra Life guild benefiting the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.
The announcement comes on the heels of AHGL’s previous charitable endeavor in the Spring of 2018, when they raised $21,550 on behalf of the winning teams and had over 1700 players participating. AHGL’s reach extends beyond Overwatch, with tournaments across multiple esports titles including Dota 2, League of Legends, Starcraft II, and more.
“Our partnership with local Overwatch League team, the San Francisco Shock, enables us to further our mission of building gaming communities within companies while supporting charity,” said Sean 'Day' Plott, the AHGL's co-founder. "Together, we'll deliver a great player experience both online and at the in person finals, while also raising money and awareness for Extra Life.”
“The Shock is always striving to give back to its local community, so when we were presented with the opportunity to collaborate with the After Hours Gaming League, we didn’t hesitate” said Andy Miller, owner and CEO of NRG and the San Francisco Shock. “AHGL has done amazing charity work in recent years, bringing esports communities together for great causes. We’re incredibly thrilled to be partnering up with them for the Overwatch NorCal Corporate Circuit.”
The tournament will kick off with the preseason on August 25th, followed by weekly online matches that will culminate in a live LAN event in the Bay Area. Weekly featured matches will be casted and streamed with the help of talent from Broadcast.gg, the local esports broadcasting community.
