For the first time ever, the entire Shock team visited the Bay Area last week to get to know their home market and meet fans in San Francisco!  The trip started in Burbank as the boys boarded the bus for the 6-hour journey up state. Halfway through, they made a pit stop where things got heated and a ghost pepper challenge made for a fun way to break up the trip. After a good night’s sleep the first stop in the morning was the Googleplex in Mountain view, where the team toured the campus and had an impromptu meet and greet with fans on site! Next they stopped for some fun in the sun at the lake nearby and then concluded the day with a BBQ at NRG founder Andy Miller’s place! The next day featured the fan meet and greet where fans waited eagerly at Aquatic Park for the team to arrive. For many this would be the first time they saw the whole team in person and the turnout was incredible!  With hundreds of fans lined up, the team saw just how much the Bay Area supports their favorite OWL team. Special thanks to the Shockwaves, our super fan club, for helping us set this up! After the meet and greet the team got to experience San Francisco in classic style with a scenic bike tour of the Golden Gate Bridge and ferry ride back to the wharf!  It was fantastic having them up here, and we’re excited for 2020 when SF truly becomes their home!

Our Rocket League trio of Fireburner, JSTN and GarrettG started Dreamhack in Dallas incredibly strong with 3-0 sweeps against their first 2 opponents! Good thing because Dad was watching J.  The next day the team swept Vitality, among the favorites to win it all, AND only allowed them one goal! TSM was up next and they proved to be a tough match. We fell in the Winner’s Semifinal in a  5-game match but later bounced back against ICON to move on to the Lower Bracket Semis. Unfortunately our match against Dignitas and a sick Justin knocked us out of the tournament after a deep run.  Now the team gets ready for the big one; the RLCS Season 7 World Championships at the end of the month at the Prudential Center in NJ!

It was a long week for the CSGO boys. After the Summit on Sunday, they flew immediately to Dallas for Dreamhack to begin their journey on Tuesday.   A rough start and loss against Furia sent them to the lower bracket, but they bounced back against Cloud 9 to move on to Day 3. We took on G2 Esports next in an exciting 3 game series that included an OT clutch play from Brehze. Unfortunately though, that was where the journey ended, as they fell to G2 in game 3. On to the ECS Lan Final this weekend.  Stay tuned to NRG Current for all the action!

Nairo had an up and down journey at Smash N Splash last week.  He started strong in doubles with Wizzy, where they made it to the Grand Finals and became the champs! He also easily made it into Top 64 singles, where he faced Captain Zack’s Bayonetta and won 3-2. That is where our Smash stud’s journey ended though after a tough fight with Void.  Nairo gets a little time off now but we will keep you up to speed on everything he is doing this summer!

This weekend in Battle Royale, our Apex crew competed in the FaceIt Pro Series! Dizzy was his godlike self of course, and the boys took home second overall!  On the Fortnite front, NRG went head to head as Benjy and Savage competed in the celeb and pro filled Friday Fortnite Tournament. They won big in the early rounds against legendary Fortnite streamer Ninja in front of a 100k+ sized audience. After losing in the semis, they got sent to the losers bracket where they squared off with the Ninja duo again in a rematch. After winning a second time, MrSavage hit his all-time peak viewership of 127k live concurrent viewers, and advanced to the finals. To no one’s surprise, NRG ended up on top as Savage and Benjy took first in the whole tourney! That impressive performance even earned a shout out from Keemstar himself! By far a career defining moment for our dynamic duo.

The growth of our social platforms continues to blow us away.  So THANK YOU for 400k on Instagram, NRG Fam!! We wouldn’t be the fastest growing org without our incredible fans and all of you who support us!
Lastly, we wish everyone a Happy Pride Month! Get your pride wallpapers here.  We also want everyone struggling with mental health issues to know we care, and if you are able, we ask you to help those in need by giving your support to NAMI!

NRG Current: A Little Bit of Everything

Big news from Apex land- the first official EA Apex League has just been announced and NRG is one of the founding teams! The league will play throughout the summer with one live match being held each week in studio. Look for Dizzy to quickly become the face of the league and his NRG squad partners Mohr and Aceu as heavy favorites to win it all.

On the Fortnite front, with almost the full squad already qualified for Wolrd Cup in NYC, it was all about growing out the social chanels and continuing the "#NRG On Top" theme for the summer. Our boy Benjy continues to blow up as he hit 100k on Instagram and 150k on Youtube! If you’re looking to get some cool gear in game, use code BENJYFISHY in the item shop!  But the social win of the week went to Symfuhny who took his online relationship with @xbrookeabx to another level with a banger love story VOD! Symf is now NRG's most popular player picking up over 100,000 Twitch followers THIS past week alone and coming in as the 5th most watched twitch player channel with 1.2M hours watched! Oh yeah btw, NRG co-owner Sodapoppin was #1 in the twitchverse with 2.2M hours watched as his channel dug in on Soda's hilarious rip through World of Warcraft.

Nairo’s been working! After GOML last week, he trained hard for Momocon and it showed! After several exciting matches he was finally able to breathe as he reached Top 8! Although he finished 5th, there was a lot to celebrate about his performance! Oh, and did we mention he pulled out Wolf, Zero Suit, Robin, AND Dark Pit in his final match??  Definitely a vintage performance from our Smash Stud!  Meanwhile HookGangGod played his way through a packed house at Combo Breaker and showed the world, once again why he is among the best in the game as Hook claimed the 2nd place spot

The boys were going for… A Duck Dynasty? Back at CS Summit to defend the trophy, they took on some of the other top teams in the world including Ghost GamingTeam Liquid, and Ence. After a long 3 days which saw the boys dominate groups they eventually fell in the semis to Liquid in a 2 game series, but we got some sick reddit-worthy highlights, including this one from Tarik!  And our guys are stretching their legs as content creators too.  Check out Tarik and Daps star performance in this Sennheiser spot! On to Dreamhack Dallas where the action begins today!

While the boys were off taking a well-deserved rest before returning this week to prep for Stage 3, the Shock events team took over the Gaming Hall at Fanime in San Jose! We even got a special visit from the Overwatch League’s own Mica Burton, donning a full cosplay. All weekend, attendees came to our booth to take photos and play games, and on Sunday Fanime Gaming put on a huge Overwatch tournament!  The Shock return to action next Thursday, June 6th against the Atlanta Reign in the featured broadcast game of the day, and if you want to get ready for the second half of the season in style, there’s even MORE new gear for you to pick up before it starts!

As mentioned the CSGO team will be in Dallas, along with much of the esports world, for Dreamhack. Their journey begins today at 2p PT vs Furia.  This weekend, NRG doubles down in Dreamhack Dallas as our award winning, undefeated team of @GarrettG  @fireburner_ and @Its_JSTN take on the best Rocket League Teams in the world in an out-of-league invitation only tournament!  Follow NRG Current for all the most up to date scores and highlights!

NRG Current: Quiet Before the Storm

After taking down the previously unbeaten Titans and claiming the Stage 2 Champions, the boys finally got a well-deserved rest from hardcore competition. But before heading home to spend time with their families, three of our players Super, Sinatraa, and Viol2t were selected to the OWL All-Star Game

Wednesday kicked off the games with the Talent Takedown, where Puckett, Soe, Sideshow, and other casters battled for bragging rights- not to mention we got to see our very own Super casting alongside Goldenboy, who made his return just for this occasion! Later, Viol2t competed in the Widow 1v1 with fellow OWL friends supporting him from the stage, Super popped off during the DPS only match, and Sinatraa gave us the time of day in the McCree only match.

Thursday was the main event- a 6v6 series with gasp- no GOATs allowed! Shock Fans in the Bay Area gathered at ESA Oakland for a watch party presented by Gamestop.  The Atlantic took the win, but the players put on a great show and the fans had an amazing time.  Plus, we got to see a reunion with one of our former Shock players who was playing for the Atlantic Division!

The Overwatch League resumes June 6th, starting with our match against the Atlanta Reign which will again be the featured match this time on Disney XD. While you’re waiting, look out for a few unique VODS on the boys during the break, pick up some new merch by Ultimate and help get Crusty, Junkbuck, and Sen into the World Cup!

First, we want to wish a happy 19th birthday to our favorite doge in Apex, Dizzy! We look forward to many more years of insane plays and world class competition and content.

The Fortnite guys continue to dominate the scoreboard. With only Symfuhny left to qualify for the World Cup, NRG is looking to dominate the competition.  This truly means a lot to the players as is evident by Zayt discussing his journey in Fortnite and Symfuhny's excitement talking about Savage qualifying!

NRG is on Top right now, and there’s more to come, especially with our roster additions- Hazard, Carter, and ChiefJ return to Clash Season 2 now joined by xPedro and lichpentakill, and Mohr joins our All-Star cast of Apex Legends players!

And finally, If you want to be a champion, you have to look like one. And now you can, with the NRG dominus decal, available in the Rocket League esports shop!

NRG Current: Champions Edition

Wow.  Truly, wow!  Most Esports organizations never accomplish what we accomplished last weekend.  Two days highlighted by two championships, including the SF Shock’s first Stage Championship in the Overwatch League!

The Shock’s journey began last year, when we assembled a team, built not just for season 1, but for the long haul.  That team was centered around two young studs; Sinatraa and Super, now the face of the Overwatch League, who were not age eligible to play until the mid point of the inaugural season.  Over time we have added new stand out players and hands down the best coaching staff in the game.  And it all came together on Sunday.  Not only did we complete an undefeated regular stage, dropping zero maps; we broke records and powered through Shanghai and Hangzhou for a chance at $200,000 and Grand Finals revenge on the Vancouver Titans who beat us in a thrilling 7 map match to win the Stage 1 Championship.

All eyes were on our players, our team, and our org as the boys battled in front of the live audience, Twitch stream, and viewers on ABC network television (for the second time that weekend and the third time in a week!).  We started strong on Lijiang, finishing the map 2 rounds to 0. Things got tight after the boys dropped the next two maps, but the team was not phased. After character defining come back wins on Gibraltar and Oasis, the Shock were one win away from the title. With amazing plays from all our guys, including Rookie of the Year candidate Viol2t, we closed out Blizzard world by shutting the Titans out of point 2 to become Stage 2 Overwatch League Champions!!!!  The raw emotion was visible on the faces of everyone involved and for good reason.  This was a long time coming, with a lot of planning and grinding along the way.  The Shock are now the #1 ranked Overwatch team in the world, but we are not done yet.

unnamed (5).jpg

Now we set our sights on the Stage 3 Championship and then, hopefully, the Overwatch League Grand Finals in Philadelphia!  The OWL will be on break until June 6th, but don’t miss our boys Sinatraa, Super, and Viol2t in the All-Star games this coming Thursday! And if you’re in the area, stop by the Oakland Esports Arena for our championship celebration, watch party, and community game night sponsored by GameStop that will include a live AMA with our CEO Andy Miller and GM Chris Chung!  RSVP here:

But NRG was not done.  Not even close.  Our Rocket League team also went undefeated through the season and they too played for a championship last weekend.   GarrettG, Fireburner, and Jstn went 7-0 in RLCS Season 7 AND swept every major stat category! Oh, and did we mention Jstn got MVP?  And as the #1 seed in the playoffs, the team started their run in semifinals, meaning they needed to get two wins in a row to win it all. Our ridiculously talented trio started strong by sweeping Rogue 4-0 and went on to play NRG nemisis Cloud 9 in the finals. At first it looked like we were going to shut them out easily, but in game 3 Cloud 9 put up one last fight, taking us into the longest overtime in Rocket League history! It lasted 11 minutes 12 seconds, beating the previous OT record by three full minutes?!?!  After Garrett finally got the winning goal in game 3, we rolled them in game 4 to win the championship, a #1 World Ranking and complete a perfect season that will go down in the Rocket League record books!

To cap off the memorable weekend, the Fortnite Qualifier Finals featured our top talent, Zayt, Symfuhny, and Mr. Savage, who all looked to clinch a spot in the World Cup! With a finish in the top spot in EU standings on the line, Savage won a spot in solos, making history with Benjy as the first duo in the world to double qualify for NYC World Cup as both a a solo and a duo! Zayt also came up big and won a spot  in the NA East server, making NRG the first Organization to double qualify 3 players in the Fortnite World Cup.  Stay tuned to NRG social for more World Cup action this week as we look to qualify more players and further distance ourselves from the field!

NRG never sleeps, and neither does our amazing org who keep social media burning, pumps out our videos and manages and coach our teams. This historic week was truly a team effort. One in which the org, our sponsors, our players, our investors and the fans can be very proud of!

NRG CURRENT: Golden Edition

unnamed (1).png

On Sunday, fans gathered at UC Berkeley to watch the San Francisco Shock go for Overwatch League history in Burbank.  In the last match of Stage 2, the Shock had a chance to do what no other team has done and what may never be done again; finish the stage perfect…undefeated and with ZERO map losses.  With a playoff spot already secured and the #1 seed in the tournament on the line, the stage was set vs. the Shanghai Dragons as we entered the match with a 6-0 record and 24-0 on maps.  One match and 4 maps stood in the way of what has now been dubbed the #goldenstage for the Shock.
Shanghai proved to be our toughest opponent thus far in Stage 2 making the boys sweat on King’s Row by pushing us to Round 4 overtime. Time and again the Dragons gave us their best and forced us into a do-or-die scenario where the Shock came through with flawless (and record-breaking) execution! We set the record for fastest round ever completed on Paris…. and then, in overtime, broke our own record to secure the map.  In the end, the six Shock starters who held those positions all stage, came through and achieved what no other team has ever done in the history of the Overwatch League; a perfect stage…a Golden Stage!
Now it’s time for the stage 2 playoffs and our journey will begin with a rematch vs Shanghai in the playoffs on Thursday at 6p PT.  We must win 3 matches, including a potential rematch vs Vancouver in the finals to capture the $200,000 prize and the Stage 2 Championship so stay tuned to Shock Social throughout the week and #ridethewave with us as we look to complete the greatest stage in OWL history!!!!

Speaking of perfection…
NRG Rocket League went into the final week of the regular season as the last NA team with an undefeated record. With 2 games on Saturday, their perfect season was on the line as they faced rivals Cloud 9 and Rogue. To add even more flavor, a perfect Season 7 in RLCS would mean NRG would be the only team to complete 2 perfect seasons in Rocket League history! Garrett, Fireburner, and JSTN got the job done with a 3-1 victory on Cloud 9 and a 3-2 victory over Rogue in a nail biter series!  Oh, and did we mention all three players swept the season ending awards with Justin, Garrett, and Fireburner taking the golden strike, clutch playmaker and savior of the season awards?  Amazing! Regional Championships begin this weekend as our RL trio continue their quest to not only win, but to solidify themselves as the clear GOATs in Rocket League history!

Our CSGO boys faced 3 powerhouse opponents at IEM Sydney in Australia last week. First was Fazeclan, who we took out with a dominant 2-0 victory, to earn a spot in the playoffs. Then it was MIBR, who we also swept in 2 rounds to take us to the semifinals. Unfortunately, that is where our journey at IEM Sydney came to an end, in an exciting 3 map series semi-final matchup against Fnatic. We are incredibly proud of what this team continues to accomplish as they have now moved to #8 in the world rankings and will keep grinding until they are #1!

unnamed (4).jpg

In Fortnite news, Zayt and Saf both qualified for the World Cup in duos earning the #1 spot for North America for New York later this year! This duo was on fire all weekend, and we are pumped to see their hard work pay off with this prestigious LAN!  And congrats to BenjyFishy for hitting 50k followers on twitter! This is a huge milestone that shows once again just how much the community loves our Fortnite crew.
Finally, we are extremely excited to announce our partnership with Sneak In-Game Energy! Use code NRG to get a discount for a limited time!

NRG Current: Whatever It Takes...

Things were quiet on the Shock front this week.  With the Ultimate Weekend 8 team homestand in Dallas going on Saturday and Sunday, the boys caught a short break in their schedule before their last two games of Stage 2 this week. But that doesn’t mean they stopped the grind.  Consider it the calm before the storm as we take on 2018 Grand Finalist Philadelphia Fusion and a dangerous Shanghai Dragons this week with hopes of securing both an undefeated and possibly the "first perfect stage" (28-0 in map count) in Overwatch League History!

For the final game against Shanghai, we are hosting our biggest watch party yet at the California Memorial Stadium! There will be free food, free swag and some extras for our die-hard Shockwave fans. This will be a great way to watch the Shock make history so grab your friends and RSVP now!

After an incredible 17 goal game last week, NRG took down G2 Esports this week to end their previously undefeated streak this season. Thanks to clutch plays by JSTN in game 4, NRG is officially the last undefeated team in NA RLCS!! Speaking of JSTN, he currently has the triple crown in NA player accolade standings as he is the #1 Golden Striker, Clutch Playmaker and Savior of the Season in RLCS! Next week we hope to continue the streak; two more games, two more wins and we will have a perfect regular season!

You know them, you love them and now you get to see them together in person for the first time! Sure, Savage and Benjy pop off in Fortnite, but they are stretching their wings as content creators too, and three VODS we created and posted from them on YouTube last week have already received over 1.3 Million views!  See how they fare with Fortnite trivia and challenges on NRG’s YouTube. Oh, and did we mention they qualified for World Cup duos?!?!  See you in NYC boys!

On the Apex side, superstar Dizzy continues to blow up! In one week, he got verified by twitterverified by YouTube, and hit 300k subs on Twitch! Congratulations to Dizzy and there is little doubt that NRG continues to be at the forefront of the growing Battle Royale scene!

NRG Clash Royale is back and the roster reveal is coming soon!  And stay tuned to NRG social this week for CSGO as Tarik and the boys begin their quest to win IEM Sydney! The team will also be heading to LA for CS Summit 4 May 23-26 so let us know if you are in town and would like to watch as they will battle 5 other teams for a $150k prize pool!

What a stretch for the SF Shock!   After a Stage 1 playoffs that put the league on notice, the Shock have gone into total domination mode in Stage 2.  5 matches up, 5 matches down in unprecedented 4-0 sweep fashion. After embarrassing Toronto on Friday, the perfect stage and consecutive map victory record was on the line Sunday against the Hangzhou Spark. The Spark put up a tough fight, but Choi, Rascal and the boys clutched it out by winning their 19th and then 20th straight maps to set and then extend the OWL record for consecutive map wins, previously set by Houston at 18 in Stage 1 of Season 1! The Shock now sit atop the leaderboard at 5-0 for stage 2 and have already clinched the Stage playoff spot. The players, like Super, are supremely confident but with a bye this week, the team will have to wait until their next matches vs. Philadelphia on 5/2 and Shanghai on 5/5 to see if we can close out a perfect stage and continue our run at Overwatch League History and the Stage 2 Championship!  And for that match on Sunday, 5/5 we are hosting a watch party on the Campus of Cal Berkeley so please join us for free food, swag, and contests and watch your SF Shock #MakeOWLHistory!

A few other milestones for Shock last week:  we hit 1 million cheers on twitch! and the team’s Super Fan Group – The Shockwaves – launched!  Thanks to everyone who made this happen- we really do have the best fans.

Lastly, on a bittersweet note, we did say goodbye to Sleepy, one of the real originals on the team who just wasn’t getting playing time in our new powerhouse line-up.  He will now get the chance to take the OWL stage again and start for the Washington Justice.

RL2 (1).jpg

We have been saying for a while now that our talented trio of GarretG, JSTN and Fireburner may be the best in the business and this year they are proving it.  In another dominant performance, the squad remains undefeated after a victory over Space Station Gaming.   Check them out this coming weekend as the boys take on G2 and don’t forget to support our Rocket League Team by getting your NRG Octane decal in the Rocket League shop now.

Guess who is going to the Fortnite World Cup after getting first place in qualifiers? That’s right, your favorite duo MrSavage and Benjyfishy! We’re excited that they will now be repping NRG in NYC!  Benjyfishy also qualified for singles and the rest of our NRG players will be grinding the world cup qualifiers to join him so keep track on NRG Social.   And if you just can’t get enough Battle Royale and you need an Apex Fix, sorry that you missed his last 12 to 12 24 hour stream, but make sure you catch Dizzy on stream next time. He continues to pull in huge viewers on Twitch!

There was a ton of other activity around a very busy stretch for NRG last week.  Nairo settled in for another  Wendy’s sponsored stream, which included incredible highlights like these.  Meanwhile HookGangGod, with the help of Double L, took the win at Super TSB for Dragonball Fighter Z.  And Hazard secured a spot at DreamHack for Clash Royale!  And if you really want to follow everything in real time, last week we launched our new twitter account: NRG Current! This account will be your go-to for match updates and live stream announcements! If you haven’t already, give the youngest in NRG a follow!

unnamed (3).jpg

After an opening week of Stage 2 that saw Marshawn Lynch lead the team out of the tunnel in advance of two wins and no map losses, the Shock had just one match last week and continued to dominate.  The Guangzhou Charge proved no match for the Boys from the Bay as we we took another 4-0 sweep to push our consecutive map win streak to 12 straight on the stage!  The community is taking notice as we are being widely recognized as one of, if not the best team in the League.  We are now embracing the difficult challenge of winning all 7 stage 2 matches without losing a map.  We call it #winnable and we have two more shots this week with matches vs. Toronto on Thursday and Hangzhou on Sunday.   We should also note, that our strategy of building around western players continues to pay off too as this amazing article from 24life highlighting both Super and Sinatraa demonstrates!   And to cap off an amazing week, the NRG CSGO team came to visit the Shock guys in Burbank and posed for this awesome crossover photo after the match!

unnamed (2).jpg

When it comes to NRG CSGO last week, they started the LAN for Season 9 of the ESL Pro League in strong form! The boys pulled off several clutch plays, resulting in two solid 2-0 victories against INTZ and EUnited. Unfortunately the team could not get the job done on Sunday vs. top 5 ranked Renegades with a loss on Inferno. Our 2-1 weekend record and positive map differential was, however, enough to punch our ticket for the ESL LAN finals in France. No qualifier tournament for us!

unnamed (1).jpg

Dizzy, Ace, and Richard played APEX on LAN for the first time at Twitchcon Rivals in Berlin! They finished in 2nd place and Dizzy took home the MVP award which came with this super cool trophy!  On the Fortnite front, for the third time in a row, Savage and Benjy took first place in duos! This time it was for the Cooler Cup, with a final score of 568! Even bigger in the space, last week, Zayt, Benjy, Savage, and Symfuhny all took part in the Fortnite World Cup Qualifier for a chance at LAN in New York and Benjy already made it in with a 3rd place finish! Who’s next?  Follow all the world Cup action this month on NRG Social!

GarretG, Jstn, and Fireburner were back in action and once again looked impressive with a 3-0 sweep on Splyce!!  Each of our talented trio was in top form on Saturday including this impressive goal to close out the second match by Garret G!  If you have not already, make sure you gear up with custom NRG skins in the Rocket League esports shop!

You already know that NRG is the Home of Champions and last week we hit a social milestone too.  NRG now has 250k followers on Twitter and 200,000 on Instagram!!!  And congrats to Symfuhny for hitting a huge milestone too:  1 million followers on Twitch! We are so proud that NRG, and our players, continues to grow the fanbase and our overall community so rapidly!

The San Francisco Shock are thrilled to announce the signing of Nam-joo "Striker" Gwon, 19, in a transfer agreement with the Boston Uprising.

Striker was an incredibly impactful player in the inaugural season of the Overwatch League and helped lead the Boston Uprising to the first undefeated stage in Overwatch League history. The Shock look forward to having Striker round out their young star studded DPS core.

“Having worked with Striker last season, I am very excited for him to join the roster. He demonstrated excellence on stage during the first season and will be a great addition to the Shock family,” said Shock Head Coach Dae-hee "Crusty" Park.

With the addition of Striker, Shock now fields a full twelve-man roster heading into Season 2 of Overwatch League, set to kick off February 14th 2019.
