THE FINAL REGIONAL FOR NRG
It’s our final chance to show out this season in RLCS Regional play for NRG Rocket League, and this time it’s all or nothing.
Our RLCS Major 2 London hopes, along with our World Championship quest, live or die this weekend when NRG RL takes to the pitch for the last regional of the RLCS season. This year of competitive Rocket League has flown by, and despite some very impressive growth from the team, NRG finds themselves on the outside looking in for the Major.
The team of GarrettG, Mist and Aqua led by coach Fireburner battled through their final open qualifier this past weekend, taking down a pair of bubble teams in “Cold” and “Netherlamericanada” to secure their spot in the Swiss Stage that begins this weekend.
Currently just inside the top-10 in the NA rankings, it would take a top-2 finish at minimum this weekend in the final regional for NRG RL to have a realistic chance at qualification on points.. Our first round matchup in Swiss is against Luminosity Gaming, a team that NRG has been on both ends of sweeping and being swept by earlier this year. It should be an exciting match that could go either way!
The odds may be stacked against us, but that’s nothing new for NRG! This team has shown flashes of brilliance and we can’t wait to support them LIVE on NRG Mission Control: Presented by Panda Express, this Friday at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET on the NRG Twitch channel. For the final time this season, tune in and watch our dynamic duo of Jamesbot and Azfura carry you through all the action for our most important weekend of the season!
LAN IS ON THE LINE FOR CS2
NRG CS2 has been in action EVERY NIGHT this week as we grind on the server toward qualification for some exciting upcoming events!
In ESL Challengers League play, the team finished their regular season play against Take Flyte, Elevate and M80 with some disappointment, going 1-5 in maps played but still securing their spot solidly in the Upper Bracket of the ECL Playoffs which begin in the coming weeks. These playoffs are what qualify us to the ESL Pro League this fall, so it’s time to lock in and show why we belong!
The team also began play this week in the Thunderpick World Championship NA Qualifiers. Advancing to the quarterfinals via a forfeit by their opponent, NRG CS2 was set up for a very competitive matchup against the Brazilian side Legacy in the Round of 8. Starting strong on Vertigo, NRG closed out a 9-3 first half advantage with a statement, winning the final four rounds out of the second half to shut the door 13-4 on Game 1.
Keeping up their strong t-side tactics, NRG were able to jump to a solid 8-4 lead on Game 2 Ancient and carry that momentum through to secure the sweep, 13-10, and a spot in the semifinals against Nouns! It was the AWP of oSee, who dominated on the server with a 40-19 K/D in the series, that provided the heroics for the team to pull ahead.
Despite a deep run into the Thunderpick NA Qualifiers, a tough series against Nouns Esports saw NRG looking at series point, just one round away from clinching a 2-0 series sweep. Unfortunately for the team, NRG were forced into an OT situation deadlocked at 12-12 before falling behind in Map 2 and dropping the series in 1-2 fashion after a tough luck Map 3. In a series that went the distance and could have gone either way, the team battled through it all and have one more chance at qualifying for LAN in a couple of weeks!
bbno$ x FSG
On Wednesday night, the team over at Full Squad Gaming dropped another amazing episode of “Who’s The Imposter” with our friend and singer-songwriter bbno$!
The full episode, which you can watch now on the FSG YouTube channel is a hilariously packed show with Avalanche, Classify and the FSG gang putting bbno$ to the ultimate Imposter test.
