With a playoff spot officially clinched following our 3-0 week last week, NRG League headed into the final week of the LCS regular season playing for a high seed in this week's Summer Split playoffs.
The team opened the week strong, showing yet another dominant performance against reigning LCS Spring Split Champions, Cloud9. Continuing the “they just can’t beat us” narrative, it looked as though NRG League had not only gotten into Cloud9’s heads, but taken up residence there. With NRG on Soul Point, C9 attempted to challenge the Elder Drake, however Palafox won the 1-v-1 in the mid-lane to destroy the nexus whilst the rest of C9 were distracted, winning the game. It was truly a beautiful thing!
Despite the team’s propensity to perform well against top-ranked teams, the boys are still searching for their rhythm against lower-tier teams, unfortunately falling against 100 Thieves and Immortals. Although there were multiple potential scenarios that would have necessitated tie-breaker matches to be played after the final day of matches, the following games played out in such a way that not a single tie-breaker needed to be played. NRG’s position as fifth seed was cemented, meaning the team will start off in the upper bracket.
Our first playoff match kicks off against Team Liquid in a best-of-five TODAY at 2pm PT, so make sure to tune in to support the #NRGFAM!

After an exciting NA Last Chance Qualifier, which saw KRU Esports pick up the last tickets to the airport heading to Los Angeles, groups were drawn for all 16 teams participating in the final event of the inaugural VCT season, Champs. NRG will be joined in Group C alongside European heavyweight and #1 ranked team in the world, FNATIC, Pacific member ZETA DIVISION, and Chinese challenger Bilibili Gaming. Our first match of the group stage against Bilibili will be held at the Shrine Auditorium in LA on August 8th! We can’t wait!

Last week, the San Francisco Shock were looking to carry forward the momentum of their 2-0 opening week into this week’s matches against the LA Valiant and London Spitfire. Come Thursday, the boys were up against the LA Valiant, who were fresh off of an impressive win against the LA Gladiators. Despite going down on Control, the Shock boys swung back when Coach Crusty shocked the entire Overwatch League fandom by putting tank player Junbin on support heading into Circuit Royale. Whatever Crusty was cooking clearly worked, spawning the “bap gap” meme, and propelling the Shock to victory.
Our match against the London Spitfire did not go as planned, with the opposing team forcing a composition that did not fit within the meta. Despite Proper pulling out heroics, our rookie squad had little experience against the unorthodox team composition, and we unfortunately fell 3-1.
Spirits remained high, however, going into our very first meet-and-greet this year. Shock fans gathered at Guildhouse in San Jose for the opportunity to meet their favorite players. It was the first time for our rookie players to meet their fans, and the big time fan support clearly gave the players new motivation to continue to work hard. Overall, the event further reinforced why fans love the Shock, and why the Shock loves their fans. We can’t wait until the next one!
The boys have a bye this week, which should allow our new rookies and returning veteran Striker to settle in ahead of our matches against the Titans and Eternal on August 5th and 6th respectively.
