NRG LEAGUE OF LEGENDS WINS FIRST EVER LCS CHAMPIONSHIP

In a season filled with trials and tribulations, it was NRG who saw themselves emerge victorious, hoisting our first ever Summit Split championship in organizational history.

Action at the Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey began Saturday, as NRG faced off against Team Liquid in the lower final. With both teams locked in for LoL Worlds in Korea later this year, this matchup still provided critical seeding implications and the right to head to our first grand finals in our first split back in seven years!

After trading games back and forth, it was time for Silver Scrapes to rock the sold out arena with one final game five to send the winner to the finale.

On the back of excellent team fighting from everyone, NRG led the final game from wire-to-wire, finishing up 20-4 in kills en-route to knocking down the nexus and punching our tickets to the finale against Cloud9.

In Sunday’s main event, we had the matchup we always wanted with Cloud9, who sent us to the lower bracket earlier in the Summer Split Playoffs. To say NRG was the underdog would be a gross understatement. Only a handful of brave prognosticators picked our boys to even put up a fight. And oh how wrong the masses were.

Making their 13th finals appearance, C9, the winner of the last two LCS Championships came out swinging downing NRG in methodical fashion to take the all important 1-0 lead.

Determined to rewrite the script to resemble our regular season matchup victories, NRG evened the series at 1-1 with the help of Contractz and Ignar racking up double-digit assists with great teamfighting. In game 3, a dominant 16-kill performance from eventual Series MVP FBI catapulted NRG right back to the series lead and championship point.

In what proved to be the final game of grand finals, NRG continued to defeat C9 in teamfighting, finishing the game up 18-7 in kills, and with a final wipe to knock down the top inhibitor and charge into the base, it was NRG who would find the final nexus to secure championship glory.

This was the first LCS Summer Split Finals victory for every member of the team except FBI, who claimed his second title. The underdogs and new kids on the block sent a powerful message throughout the LCS that with determination and staying together, dreams can come true!

Next up, our team is on a short break before taking off for Korea to bootcamp against the best teams in the world. Our Group Stage reveal is set to take place TBD in the coming weeks ahead. Stay tuned to NRG League social as North America's great hope takes on the world in Korea in October.
