A new member of the NRGFam was crowned last Sunday, as NRG Azfura rose up to the challenge to become the NRG Carvana Combine CHAMPION.

With thousands of entrants narrowed down to just our final eight creators, our finalists were put to the ultimate test of content creation with a three-stage competition that included the NRG Carvana Combine Course, a special talent show, and an ultimate 1v1 duel live-streamed from the NRG Castle in Downtown Los Angeles.

In the NRG Carvana Combine Course, contestants had to clear 10 levels of obstacles including various jumps, flips, resets and rings in the fastest time possible to shoot up to the top of the leaderboard. The first round proved to be critical to the contestants, as the fastest players were able to choose their Round 1 opponents for the 1v1 duel in the final round. With a time of 5:05, it was Mizu who reigned supreme and took home the fastest time, securing the $5,000 minigame bonus cash!

In the talent show portion of the combine, contestants were asked to deliver an original routine in five minutes or less showcasing their skills IRL to have their personalities on full display. And deliver they did! Coconut, with his combo act of Frank Sinatra karaoke & solving a Rubik's Cube (simultaneously) proved to be a hit amongst the panel of judges including Musty, Chell and NRG CEO Andy Miller, who judged each of the acts on creativity, personality showcasing, and overall talent ability. A variety of acts including “sports”, comedy routine, magic shows and even a Ted Talk were showcased, but Coconut won the hearts of our judges and chat, earning him top honors and $5,000!

Finally, our 1v1 bracket put all eight player’s gameplay abilities on display on the big stage with a chance to walk away as a LAN champion, and the ultimate bragging rights. Some upsets hit along the way, but the two favorites, Coconut and Mizu, ended up battling for the big prize with Mizu earning the convincing W!

After the final event, our leadership team, alongside our creators Musty and Chell deliberated in the NRG Conference Room and held a vote to determine who the winner of the NRG Rocket League content creator contract would be. All the finalists were judged not just on their performance at the Combine finale, but all of the rounds leading up to that point plus their engagement during our behind the scenes media day.

With a well-rounded approach to his content, his charismatic attitude and hilarious virality on all platforms, the Champion stood tall as Azfura was announced as the newest member of NRG. A special thanks to our amazing partner Carvana for making this dream become a reality, and a special thank you to all those who watched the event. With over 7.6 MILLION stream impressions, as well as 34 MILLION event impressions, this event is at the top of the Rocket League conversation and it wouldn’t have been possible without the Fam tuning in!

The NRG Carvana Combine also featured a MAJOR surprise guest, as we added not one… but TWO members to the NRGFam on Sunday.

Returning to NRG is Fireburner! With a famed career as a player dating back all the way to RLCS Season 2, Coach Fireburner is BACK and ready to take our roster to new heights. Having recently coached Version1 to a championship at Gamers8 over the summer, we are confident that Fireburner will lead us back to greatness alongside a new roster which we are excited to announce soon (we promise).
