The mission was simple, win and we’re in. Last Friday the VALORANT squad took the server against Cloud 9 in the most important game of the season. After a slow start in map 1, the team surged back, convincingly winning map 2. The decider, a map 3 battle on Lotus, came down to the wire. Ultimately, the team clutched up and punched their tickets to the biggest event of the year, CHAMPIONS in Paris, France.
Winning vs. c9 was a huge load off our shoulders, but it was only the lower bracket quarterfinals. With little rest, the boys squared off vs. Sentinels in the lower finals in a best of 5. The entire casting desk picked Sentinels to win… but they were all wrong! NRG made quick work of SEN, winning 3-0 and punching a ticket to the finals for the chance to raise a trophy.
Unfortunately, the boys fell short in the grand finals to G2, finishing the VCT season in 2nd place. The team salvaged a seemingly lost year by ratting off a number of impressive wins versus the best teams in the Americas. Few believed, but the boys beat the odds.
Next up is VCT Champions which kicks off on September 13th in Paris, France.
Please join us in welcoming Sonic as the newest member of NRG CS2. Formerly of Envy, ATK Cloud9 and most recently Wildcard, Sonic will be replacing Carson in our starting lineup.
The addition of Sonic will be a huge boon to the team that is coming off winning ECL Cup 1 this past weekend, securing a decent chunk of prize money and an invitation to the ECL Season 50 NA Finals.
Aran will be making his debut with the team at Fragadelphia Knoxville where the team will be looking to lock in a spot at the upcoming Budapest Major in November of this year. A good performance at Frag would likely secure NRG’s position within the 10 teams invited to this season's most prestigious event.
The NRG Rocket League squad have made their way out to France to bootcamp at the THRUSTMASTER facilities. The team will spend the next few days preparing for the RLCS World Championships in Lyon, with our first match starting on September 11th. The team will look to take home its first trophy of the year after a season full of online success, but disappointment on LAN. Stay tuned to NRG socials this weekend to follow the journey!
