RIYADH WRAP UP

MAJOR EXCITEMENT Reading RIYADH WRAP UP 4 minutes

Fresh off a productive bootcamp in Poland, NRG VAL made the trip to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the Esports World Cup. The team matched up with old friend, Benjyfishy, of Team Heretics in the first match of the tourney, and made quick work of the European squad, 13-4!.

Coming off the big win vs. TH, the boys played Indonesian squad, RRQ, for a chance to qualify for playoffs. RRQ, the reigning VCT Pacific Champs, were no match for NRG, dropping two quick maps as NRG cruised into the single-elimination playoff bracket.

After two days of rest, NRG squared off vs. Korean powerhouse, Gen.G. Map 1 unfortunately spiraled out of our control, as Gen.G swiftly closed things out. In Map 2, NRG looked poised to even the series, but Gen.G ultimately pulled away in the final rounds of the contest, winning 13-10, and knocking NRG out of the tourney in the quarterfinals.

While top 8 was a fairly good result, the team is hungry to improve and will have a chance to get back into the server this Sunday as VCT Split 2 will kick off this weekend. NRG will need to perform well in this split in order to qualify for Champs in Paris, France later this year. The team is feeling very confident and the improvement in the past few months has been very encouraging.  Make sure to tune in starting this Sunday to follow their journey.

NRG Apex also made the trip from Poland to Riyadh to compete in the EWC. Going into the tourney, our IGL and captain, iiTzTimmy, announced to the world that the EWC would be his final event as a competitor. A legend of Apex, Timmy decided it was his time to focus more on his streaming career.

Timmy’s decision would be a big storyline going into the tournament. With the event kicking off on a Wednesday, 40 teams would eventually be whittled down to 20 for the grand finals lobby on the Sunday of the tourney. NRG, a tournament favorite, unfortunately failed to qualify for the final lobby. In a heartbreaking series of events, the squad missed out on qualifying by 1 point! A disappointing showing for the squad, NRG placed 21st at the EWC.

Despite the disappointing finish, the weekend was filled with tributes to the legend, Timmy who will be officially retiring and moving into content creation full time. We wish him all the best!

With the Austin Major in the books, NRG CS2 underwent some big changes, swapping out ⅖’s of the roster to prepare for the second half of the year. HexT was transferred to rivals, M80, and oSee was moved to the bench as newcomers xotic and nosraC join the squad.

nosraC, previously with Nouns, and xotic, an enigmatic, but talented AWPer will make their debuts this weekend at Fragadelphia 19 in Windsor, Ontario. All eyes will be on xotic, as he has long been a massive talent, but has never played at an offline event. We can’t wait to see what he can show on LAN!

This summer, the Squad leveled up in a major way — teaming up with the stars of Superman, the hottest movie of the year.

In a surreal moment, we played Heads Up with none other than Clark Kent (David Corenswet), Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). Even crazier? Superman himself is a fan of our YouTube and asked to shoot even more content with us. One week after the drop, the numbers speak for themselves:
